Matthew N. Drecun represents plaintiffs and defendants at every level of litigation, with particular experience in federal appellate practice and a focus on complex civil matters involving mass torts, bankruptcy, and governmental parties. His work has spanned all phases of litigation—from complaint drafting and discovery to trial and Supreme Court merits briefing.

Matt was an associate at Kellogg Hansen from 2019 to 2023. Before rejoining the firm in 2025, Matt served in the Appellate Section of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. In that capacity, Matt worked on civil and criminal cases involving a broad range of constitutional, statutory, procedural, and evidentiary issues on behalf of the United States before the Supreme Court and courts of appeals nationwide.

Prior to joining Kellogg Hansen in 2019, Matt served as a law clerk to Judge Stephen A. Higginson on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and to Judge Keith P. Ellison on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Matt graduated with Highest Honors from University of Texas School of Law. He earned his master’s degree in public affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas and his undergraduate degree in politics from Princeton University.
