Alejandra Ávila represents both plaintiffs and defendants in complex civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels. As a seasoned litigator and former U.S. Supreme Court law clerk with over a decade of experience in the non-profit, government, and private sectors, Alejandra brings strategic insight, deep courtroom experience, and a commitment to excellent client service.
Alejandra’s diverse practice includes antitrust and complex commercial litigation with billions of dollars at stake and cross-border disputes involving foreign sovereigns and corporations. Alejandra has experience managing all phases of litigation, including conducting pre-suit investigations, drafting pleadings and motions, managing discovery, taking and defending fact and expert depositions, and managing trial preparation. She has significant appellate experience, including handling appeals raising jurisdictional, procedural, and constitutional questions of first impression. Alejandra also maintains an active pro bono practice and has provided pro bono representation to indigent criminal defendants, individuals facing eviction, asylum seekers, domestic abuse survivors, and non-profit organizations. She has served as lead counsel on several pro bono amicus briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court, representing organizations and individuals.
Alejandra clerked at all levels of the federal judiciary, for Justice Sonia Sotomayor on the United States Supreme Court, Chief Judge Mary H. Murguia of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the Honorable Micaela Alvarez of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Before joining the firm, Alejandra also was a civil rights attorney at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. In that role, she successfully represented individuals and organizations in a variety of civil rights cases, including in the areas of voting rights, education, and constitutional law.
Alejandra serves on the Executive Board of the Edward Coke Appellate Inn of Court. She was selected as a 2025 finalist for Young Lawyer of the Year in Litigation by The American Lawyer (ALM), and she was presented with the Rising Star Award by the Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia in 2021.
